I Am Building SLS: Amir Abraham, Project Lead Engineer

As the electromagnet project lead engineer for the boosters for NASA’s Space Launch System, I get to do some really cool stuff. The coolest part of my job is to perform 3-D electromagnetic simulation on the integrated booster. An accomplishment that I’m really proud of is that I determined the effects of the lightning environment on the SLS booster electrical components.

When I was a child, my dream was to join the Air Force and be a fighter, but I received a job offer from ATK while I was finishing my studies at Purdue, and I accepted it instantly. I was (and still am) so excited to work as part of the new NASA program (SLS), and since then I continue my desire and interest in the space program.

I was born in Egypt and got my master’s degree from Purdue University in electrical and computer engineering. My advice to anyone pursuing a career similar to mine would be to follow your dream and always work hard to achieve it. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice.
