Edsel Christopher Sanchez is the chief of the Technical Performance and Integration Division within the Engineering Directorate at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In this role, he oversees the technical integration and interface for all design, development, construction, and system certifications, serving institutional and agency program customers. Sanchez also manages contracts for Engineering support contractors and business services, ensuring effective collaboration and performance across multiple projects.

Experience

Before his appointment as division chief, Sanchez served as the deputy chief of the division and as the chief of the Facilities Project Management branch. In this capacity, he led large-scale construction projects, overseeing the transformation of Kennedy Space Center from a government-only facility to a multi-user spaceport. He was responsible for approximately $1 billion in construction projects, ensuring they adhered to scope, schedule, and budget constraints.

Sanchez began his NASA career in 2004 as a systems engineer in the Space Shuttle Telecommunications Branch, supporting operations and maintenance for orbiter vehicles during launch processing. Over the years, he has taken on roles of increasing responsibility, including leading electrical ground support equipment development under the Constellation Project Office, and managing infrastructure projects for Kennedy’s Exploration Ground Systems.

Awards

Sanchez has received numerous honors for his contributions to NASA, including NASA’s Exceptional Service and Achievement medals, a Certificate of Commendation, and several Kennedy Group Achievement Awards.

Education

He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Florida International University in Miami, and a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida and holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation.
