Dr. Darryl Smith

Dr. Darryl A. Smith is the Deputy Director of the Support Operations Directorate at the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) in Hancock County, Mississippi. He also serves in a dual role as the Division Chief of Project Management and Integration. An accomplished senior management professional with experience in department operations and information technology (IT) implementation, Dr. Smith began his NASA career at the Goddard Space Flight Center in 1999.

He also has extensive experience supporting multiple phases in the Federal acquisition process and managing various IT projects over his NASA career of more than 20 years. Dr. Smith has provided guidance and recommendations to many Historically Black Colleges and Universities along with Minority Serving Institutions concerning subcontracting and student internship opportunities within NASA.  He has garnered several accolades, including a NASA Silver Snoopy Award in 2015, a Space Flight Awareness Honoree in 2011, and the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2008.   

Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. in public administration and political science with a minor in management information systems from Howard University. He previously earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Grambling State University followed by a master’s degree in public administration from the University of the District of Columbia.
