Gary P. Garbinski
Deputy Chief Financial Officer
Gary Garbinski serves as the deputy chief financial officer (CFO) at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. In this role, Garbinski assists the CFO with managing Glenn’s financial operations, including accounting and financial analysis; budget and resource management; cost estimating for Glenn’s programs, projects and institutional organizations; and managing a diverse group of civil servant and contractor personnel.
From 2018 to 2019, Garbinski was the deputy division chief of the Resources Analysis Division within the Office of the CFO, where he was responsible for oversight of the center’s institutional budget, resource reporting and analysis, and workforce utilization.
Garbinski served as center management and operations project manager from 2014 to 2018. During that time, he was responsible for managing budget formulation and execution of Glenn’s $180 million institutional budget. As assistant to the CFO from 2010 to 2014, Garbinski’s leadership resulted in streamlined business processes, improved contract analysis and improved financial reporting.
Prior to joining Glenn, Garbinski worked in the private sector for 17 years with National City Bank, Accenture LLP and Andersen Consulting. He was responsible for budget management, developing financial modeling tools to forecast performance and leading numerous process improvement projects to increase efficiency and reduce cost.
A Cleveland native, Garbinski earned a master’s and bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He also completed Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training and the Consumer Bankers Association Graduate School of Retail Bank Management program.
Garbinski is the recipient of several NASA awards, including a Group Achievement Award and a Special Act Award.
In his spare time, Garbinski enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his wife and daughter.
