NASA IV&V Engineering Apprenticeship Program – Student Presentations

NASA IV&V Engineering Apprenticeship Program (NEAP)

Twenty local high school students will present the results of their work at NASA Independent Verification and Validation Facility at the Facility Monday, August 30 and will leave on Tuesday, August 31 to present their results to senior Agency leadership at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.  NASA IV&V has provided this experience to 170 NEAP students since it inception in 1995, including those in this summer’s class.

The twenty students live and attend school within a 50 mile commuting radius of the NASA IV&V Facility.  Eight weeks of their summer is spent at NASA Independent Verification and Validation Facility learning from and working on projects with software engineers and other program professionals. NASA IV&V professionals propose projects to be considered by NEAP as significant and challenging. NEAP selects the projects and mentors that are believed to have the potential for real value to the student, the project at the Facility, and to the Agency.

Most NEAP students report that their NASA IV&V experience has better prepared them to enter the work force because they learned how to interact and contribute as professionals in federal agency environment as well as the technical aspects of the work.  NEAP students have reported that they are better prepared to make meaningful decisions about programs of study in their remaining high school and college curriculum.  They are no longer just imagining a goal; they have gotten a view of it, and a clearer understanding of how to reach for it.

NEAP students must be at least 16 years of age and may be Sophomores, Juniors, and/or Seniors in high school or have just completed their senior year.
