The following is a statement from NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility Director Robert Champion:
As more of us return to work at the facility, the protection and care of the NASA Michoud team remains our top priority. After careful evaluation of agency guidance, updated federal, state, and local guidelines, and conditions in the community, we have determined that Michoud meets all requirements to transition to Stage 2 of NASA’s Framework for Return to On-site Work beginning Monday, Oct. 19. Specific factors included in our evaluation were the ease of restrictive orders by the state and city as they follow the White House plan for Opening Up America Again, the increase of COVID-19 testing capabilities in the region, and the decrease in COVID-19 cases in the greater New Orleans area over a 14-day period.
NASA guidance and facility plans will be steadfast safety driven and adjusted accordingly should conditions diminish. Meaning, if conditions worsen in the community, MAF is prepared to return to an elevated stage of the response framework. Employees are urged to remain in constant contact with their supervisors for specific instructions, and to read all communications from their supervisors, the agency, our facility, and regularly visiting NASA People and MAFSpace for the latest information.
The support and dedication of the MAF team is greatly appreciated as we plan how best to increase on-site work in the safest manner. Thank you for your patience and collaboration as we work through these difficult times. While determining when and how the facility will return to a new “normal,” together, we will prevail.
