Solicitations: Where to Submit InSPA Proposals

NASA and the ISS National Laboratory are collaborating on a strategy and set of recommended targets for rapid development of In Space Production Applications (InSPA) over the next ten years, with concentration on accelerating carefully selected concepts with the potential for a rapid return on investment. U.S. businesses, institutions and non-profits may seek full funding support by proposing to the NASA Research Announcement (NRA) in the link below. Proposers may also seek limited funding support and access to ISS National Lab resources by proposing to an ISS National Lab Research Announcement (NLRA) linked below. Current business opportunities can be found below.

NASA Research Announcement (NRA): Research Opportunities for International Space Station Utilization NNJ13ZBG001N, Special Focus Area #1. See current NRA Amendment for schedule of white paper and proposal submittals.

ISS National Lab Research Announcements: The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) releases solicitations on a quarterly basis, sometimes offering funding to cover the cost of space station research implementation partners. For more information, see ‘ISS National Laboratory Support’ below.

NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR): NASA has annual calls for proposals for Phase I and Phase II awards to small U.S. Businesses. See Chapter 9, under Focus Area 22, Low Earth Orbit Platform Utilization and Microgravity Research. Solicitations | NASA SBIR & STTR Program Homepage

ISS National Laboratory Support

NASA and the ISS National Laboratory are collaborating on a strategy and set of recommended targets for rapid development of In Space Production Applications over the next ten years, with concentration on accelerating carefully selected concepts with the potential for a rapid return on investment. Proposers are strongly urged to contact the ISS National Lab, also known as The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) for discussions on implementing your proposal. Current business opportunities can be found here:

Access to the ISS National Lab:  As operator of the ISS National Lab, the Center for the Advancement of Science In Space (CASIS) and NASA partner with U.S. industry, academia, and other Government agencies to use the ISS National Lab to develop, demonstrate and advance technologies for In Space Production Applications, while leveraging experienced Implementation Partners with microgravity microgravity-tested equipment. Awardees are provided access to the ISS National Laboratory and all necessary on-orbit resources: upmass, downmass, U.S. Operating Segment (USOS) crew time, data transmission, and power, including flight manifesting and increment operations planning, at no cost.

ISS National Lab Research Announcements: On a quarterly basis, CASIS selects proposals submitted to various National Lab Research Announcements by U.S. companies for utilization of the ISS National Lab and for funding of implementation partner support. Selected awardees are provided access to the ISS National Lab and all necessary on-orbit resources at no cost.

Resource Requests: Experienced implementation partners offer payload hardware development and/or mission integration and operations services to assure the payload meets ISS interface and safety requirements. Reference the ISS National Lab list of implementation partners for more information.
