John Young is the only astronaut to have flown during the Gemini, Apollo and space shuttle programs. He was the pilot on the first Gemini mission and commander of the first space shuttle flight. He commanded the Apollo 16 mission and walked on the moon during it. He joined NASA in 1962 and retired in 2004.
