Shape of Things to Come

This modified Northrop F-5E jet was used during 2003 for NASA's Shaped Sonic Boom Demonstration program, a successful effort to show that an aircraft's shape can be used to reduce the intensity of the sonic booms it creates while flying supersonic. Test pilot Roy Martin was quoted after the low-boom flight as saying "Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. We just fixed it."
