51A-104-046 (14 Nov. 1984) --- Astronaut Dale A. Gardner, tethered to the space shuttle Discovery's starboard side, during the Nov. 14, 1984 extravehicular activity (EVA). Gardner donned a nearby Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) and traversed to a spinning WESTAR VI satellite and docked with it so that he and astronaut Joseph P. Allen IV could retrieve it for return to Earth. The crew consisted of astronauts Frederick Hauck, commander; David M. Walker, pilot; and mission specialists Anna L. Fisher, Gardner and Allen. The mission retrieved the PALAPA B-2 and the WESTAR-VI that was released during the STS-41B mission. Photo credit: NASA
