Data Tells Story of NASA Moon Rocket Engine Tests

An image from July 25 shows how NASA instrumentation engineer Tristan Mooney prepares for an RS-25 engine test in the test control center at NASA Stennis. The computer screen displays the status of equipment at the test stand and is configured to monitor and control recordings during a hot fire test. NASA tests engines to fully understand their performance capabilities and limits. For RS-25 engines, that means capturing mountains of data as operators simulate how the engine must fire during launch of NASA’s powerful SLS (Space Launch System) rocket.
