As STS-120 mission specialist Scott Parazynski shows in this image, repairing the International Space Station bears an uncanny resemblance to lacing a pair of shoes. Shown here repairing the P6 4B solar array wing during the mission’s fourth spacewalk, Parazynski used items commonly found around the station to complete this unscheduled repair. He and fellow spacewalker Doug Wheelock laced wires through the truss with needle-nosed pliers, like threading laces through the eyelets on a pair of jogging shoes, to secure the arrays.
