The Space Shuttle Challenger (STS-8 mission) was used to test TDRS-1’s ability to communicate with the Space Shuttle, the European Space Agency’s upcoming Spacelab mission, and the ground Station in White Sands, New Mexico. Both S- and Ku- antennas on TDRS-1 were successfully tested.
