Deep Space Station 36 (DSS-36) in Canberra, Australia became operational on October 1, 2016. The antenna, located within the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC), was built as part of the Deep Space Network Aperture Enhancement Project (DAEP). DSS-36’s first job was to communicate with Mars Odyssey and Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) missions.
