During a prelaunch briefing at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, Tom Hoffman, InSight Project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, speaks to members of the media. The presentation focused on NASA’s Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, or InSight, Mars lander. InSight is scheduled for liftoff May 5, 2018, atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex 3 at Vandenberg. The spacecraft will be the first mission to look deep beneath the Martian surface studying the planet’s interior by measuring its heat output and listen for marsquakes.
