NACA High-Speed Flight Station, Edwards, California, flew this F-100 Super Sabre from 1954 to 1960 to investigate stability and control features of the then-new supersonic Air Force fighter. The program was part of NACA’s support to the test and development program of the new “century series” of aircraft – F-100, F-101, F-102, F-104, F-105, F-106, and F-107.

North American JF-100C (Serial # 53-1709) was received at NASA Flight Research Center November 2, 1960, from Ames Research Center. The NASA Research Center variable-stability model #709 was used for a range of airborne simulation studies, including some in support of the X-15 and SST studies. The F-100C #709 was returned to General Electric to be restored to flight configuration on February 3, 1964. On March 11, 1964 it was transferred to Ames Research Center.
