NASA Chief Technologist Douglas Terrier (upper right) participates on a virtual panel as part of the M.E.N.A. Innovation Technology Transfer Summit, Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020. The panel – hosted by the Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates – discussed future crewed missions to Mars, including the importance of sending astronauts to the Red Planet, and how to accomplish the missions safely. Also on the panel were NASA Chief Scientist Jim Green (upper left) and NASA Goddard Deputy Center Director for Technology and Research Investments Christyl Johnson (lower center). Joining the NASA leaders on the panel were Omran Sharaf, project manager of the Emirates Mars Mission (upper center), Farouk El-Baz, director of the Center for Remote Sensing at Boston University (lower left), and Fabienne Casoli, president of the Paris Observatory.
