The Deep Space Network (DSN) Aperture Enhancement Project (DAEP) was initiated by the Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) office to replace the aging 70m antennas, such as DSS-43 seen here in the background, with arrays of four 34m antennas to provide equivalent performance. These antennas, including DSS-36, utilize a Beam Wave Guide (BWG) design. When completed, DSS-36 will appear identical to DSS-34, seen here in the foreground.
