NASA’s Ikhana is a modified General Atomics Aeronautical Systems’ Predator B unmanned aircraft system being used by NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, CA, for environmental science and aeronautical research roles. The name “Ikhana” (pronounced ee-KAH-nah) is a Choctaw Nation word that means intelligent or understanding. Here, Ikhana flew an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, or ADS-B, device. ADS-B is an aircraft tracking technology that all planes operating in U.S. airspace must adopt by January 2020 to comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.March 15, 2012NASA Photo / Tony Landis
