PROGRAM/PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESOURCE LIST #57

Revised September 2017

Most people think of inventors as people who toil alone in their cellar or garage until their dream becomes reality. While there are still a handful of successful individual inventors, such as Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the founders of Apple Computers, many of America’s most inventive people are employed by the government or by large firms, where their drives to create are channeled into meeting the goals of their employers. This pathfinder addresses the issues of managing teams of engineers and scientists, especially for managers who do not have a background in those fields. You may also find interesting items in our webpages on Transforming Engineers and Scientists Into ManagersHuman Capital Management in the Technical Fields, and Measuring Organizational Effectiveness in Research and Development Organizations.
