PROGRAM/PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESOURCE LIST #58

Revised Sep. 2017

Provided by the NASA Headquarters Library

In many research-oriented organizations, there are two paths to success: a technical path and a managerial path. At some point in his or her career, someone who has moved smoothly up the technical path will be offered a chance to enter the managerial path. In fact, according to the American Society for Engineering Management, in 2007, about two out of every three engineers spent some time as a manager.

However, the transition from one hierarchy to the other can be rocky. This webpage lists resources that will help someone making this change dodge the obstacles in their path. Other items of interest can be found in our resource lists on Managing Scientists and EngineersManagerial Core Competence, and Project Management Introductory Texts.

All items are available at the Headquarters Library, except as noted. NASA Headquarters employees and contractors: Call x0168 or email Library@hq.nasa.gov for information on borrowing or in-library use of any of these items. Members of the public: Contact your local library for the availability of these items. NASA Headquarters employees can request additional materials or research on this topic. The Library welcomes your comments or suggestions about this webpage.
