The Thermal Protection Materials Branch at NASA Ames Research Center has contributed to the development of multiple missions at NASA. The Branch combines experiment, fabrication, characterization, evaluation, analysis and modeling to support its goals. The Branch develops materials in-house and also collaborates externally to develop thermal protection materials.
You can learn more about the various materials that have been developed by the Branch here:
- Low Density Ablaters- PICA/SIRCA
- Reusable Materials – AIM/FRCI/AETB/TUFROC/AFRSI/Tile Gap Fillers
- Woven Materials – 3D-MAT/HEEET
- Coatings – RCG/TUFI/HETC
Below is a chart of Ames developed TPS Materials that have been used on various NASA missions from 1956-present.
