NASA’s Space Communications Podcast Returns

“The Invisible Network,” a narrative podcast produced by NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program office, has returned for a second season.

The first episode, released today, features interviews with NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and NASA Chief Historian Bill Barry. It outlines the purpose and goals for the Artemis program, highlighting key differences in motivation and approach between Artemis and Apollo, NASA’s first lunar crewed exploration initiative.

“Apollo comes at a particular moment. It’s a part of the Cold War struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union,” said Barry. Today, “the context is very different.”

Releasing on Mondays and Thursdays in the coming months, the remainder of the season highlights contributions of communications and navigation engineers to the Artemis program and NASA exploration initiatives. Listeners will learn about innovations ranging from advanced search and rescue beacons for astronauts to burgeoning research into quantum communications. The podcast will delve into NASA’s profound impact on the world at large since the agency first endeavored to place humanity among the stars.

“Make no mistake, we go to the Moon because we’re interested in science, discovery and exploration,” said Administrator Bridenstine. However, “the return on investment is far more than we could ever expect.”
