Dawn M. Schaible

Dawn Schaible serves as Director of NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She leads a team of more than 2,500 civil servants and contractors, who are developing power, propulsion, and communications technologies that will define the future of aviation and space exploration. She shapes the center’s strategic vision, stewarding its annual budget and diverse portfolio to align Glenn’s capabilities, people, and facilities with NASA’s most pressing priorities and upcoming missions.  
 
Schaible’s nearly four-decade tenure at NASA reflects a career built on navigating the agency’s most demanding technical and organizational challenges. Her path has taken her through pivotal roles including deputy director of Glenn, engineering director of NASA’s Langley Research Center, NASA deputy chief engineer, and leadership positions integral to the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs as well as manager of the Systems Engineering Office for the NASA Engineering and Safety Center, established after the Columbia accident.   
 
In these key engineering and leadership roles across the agency, she’s overseen the design and development of advanced flight systems and breakthrough technologies, set engineering standards while overseeing the technical foundation of some of NASA’s most ambitious missions, and played a foundational role in establishing critical independent technical assessment capabilities for NASA’s highest-risk challenges.  
 
Schaible is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Bradley University. She has masters’ degrees in space systems operations from the Florida Institute of Technology and engineering and management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Schaible began her NASA journey in 1987 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
