Dr. Bermejo-Moreno will perform a computational study of the flow around and heat transfer into blunt bodies in the hypersonic flow conditions of spacecraft atmospheric entry, descent, and landing (EDL). The project will specifically focus on the use of high fidelity simulations to characterize the effects of surface roughness, airflow turbulence, and mass-flux on the transition from laminar to turbulent flow and heat transfer.
