Armstrong Flight Research Center and the RAIF facility have supported a number of aeronautics research programs utilizing F-18 aircraft. These programs include the High Alpha Research Vehicle (HARV), the Systems Research Aircraft (SRA), Autonomous Flight Formation (AFF), Active Aeroelastic Wing (AAW), Autonomous Aerial Refueling Demonstrator (AARD), and the Autonomous Formation Flight (AFF).

In support of these programs, the RAIF demonstrated the viability of the facility’s concept and design, and the ability to provide all of its program support functions utilizing stand-alone and pilot-in-the-loop simulations, integrated hardware and vehicle-in-the-loop connectivity, and direct vehicle support capabilities.

For additional information on simulation and facility capabilities see the Capabilities page.
