This course discusses the use of hypergols (hydrazine fuels and nitrogen tetroxide) and will identify the hazards associated with the use of hypergols including: toxicity, reactivity, fire, and explosion. Management of hypergol safety risk is discussed in terms of design, buildup, and operation, personal protective equipment, and detectors/monitors.

Students will be able to

  1. Identify and evaluate typical hazards of hypergols and hypergol systems,
  2. Understand safe practices in design, materials selection, and operation of hypergol systems,
  3. Become more aware of the safety procedures and features in their facility/work area,
  4. Understand of how respond to emergency situations involving hypergols,

Target Audience
This course is specifically intended for anyone who work with hypergolic systems of handle hypergolic propellants.
