Blue Ghost Is On Its Way!
Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost is now on its way down to the surface of the Moon. The lander successfully performed a descent orbit insertion burn, which initiates the descent sequence and places the vehicle on the trajectory to its landing site on the Moon’s Mare Crisium.
Following this burn, Blue Ghost began a 50-min coast phase and regained comms about halfway through — once the lander emerged from the far side of the Moon. The lander will now continue coasting until it is a little over 10 miles above the surface before beginning its powered descent initiation. Along the way, the mission team will use the vision-based terrain navigation system to track Blue Ghost’s position.
