Maker Monday

Maker Monday programming at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is intended to stimulate inquiring minds, of all ages, on STEM topics through hands on demonstrations and guided activities within the Maker Space.

STEAM Literature Series (SLS)

April 4, 2024 | 10 a.m.

You know what all astronauts are really good at doing? Reading! Reading is a vital part of all children’s futures, not just the ones going to space! Join the U.S. Space & Rocket Center inside their Spark Lab to put the “A” in STEAM as we read stories and enjoy an activity or craft.

Teen Maker Hour

10:30 a.m. on Select Days

Join the U.S. Space & Rocket Center on select days at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Museum Ticket Desk for Teen Maker Hour! This teen program is geared toward ages 12 and up and features exciting hands-on STEAM curriculum. Tickets are $12 per student and general admission is NOT required.

Daily at 10:30 a.m.

Discover the furthermost reaches of the universe as revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope, the most powerful telescope ever built. Witness the evolution of galaxies, the life cycle of stars and strange, distant worlds in this live, interactive show in the INTUITIVE Planetarium at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

2024 Total Solar Eclipse Discussion

April 6, 2024 | 7:30 p.m.

The Von Braun Astronomical Society will host a program in their planetarium in Monte Sano State Park. They will discuss how to view the total solar eclipse.

NASA Student Launch – Rocket Fair

April 12, 2024 | 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Secondary and University student teams from across the country will display their high-power rockets and payload experiments in the Von Braun Center East Hall in downtown Huntsville, AL. Attendees will be able to see the projects up close in a way not possible at the Saturday launch event. The student teams will engage with attendees to discuss their projects and answer questions.

NASA Student Launch – Launch Event

April 13, 2024 | 8:30 a.m. (Raindate is Sunday, April 14, 2024)

Student teams will launch their high-power rockets in front of a crowd of several thousand people. Each rocket flies to between 4,000 and 6,000 feet and carries a scientific or engineering payload. Rockets range in size from 6ft to 12ft in length with masses from 8 to 55lbs. The event takes place at Bragg Farms in Toney, Alabama and viewing is open to the public. Pets, open flames, generators, and smoking/vaping are prohibited. Additional safety restrictions will be in place and communicated at the launch field.
