Lake Nasser, created by the Aswan High Dam in southern Egypt

Extending into northern Sudan, it stores water from the Upper Nile and regulates its flow into the Lower Nile. This photograph was taken from the International Space Station while orbiting 260 miles above the eastern Sahara.
