Isaac Anderson Samples Trace Gases
CRATER engineer Isaac Anderson uses a syringe to gather a sample of the emissions coming from a fumarole in Rincon de la Vieja National Park, Costa Rica. A fumarole is a crack in the Earth's surface that passively emits gases from the volcanic system beneath; in this case, the vent is underneath a shallow stream, causing the water to bubble as the gases move through it.
