Mohan Shankar

Branch Head, Climate Science Branch, Science Directorate, NASA Langley Research Center

Dr. Mohan Shankar has supported the Climate Science Branch (CSB) in the Science Directorate for the past 16 years, first as a contractor for 12 years and then civil servant since 2019. His technical work has been primarily in support of the Radiation Budget Science Project’s Instrument Working Group (IWG). He first joined as a CERES instrument calibration/validation scientist and now serves as the CERES Deputy Project Scientist and leads the IWG. In addition, he has a keen interest in maturing low-TRL technology in support of the development of future flight instruments. Dr. Shankar has been serving as the Assistant Branch Head of the CSB since 2021, initially on a 1-year detail and then in a permanent capacity since 2022. He received his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Duke University, where he developed novel compact visible and infrared cameras that employed computational imaging.
