Aerial Ignition Plastic Spheres
Aerial firing boss Ross Carter holds two plastic spheres used to ignite prescribed burns. These plastic spheres are full of potassium permanganate which, when injected with glycol, create a small flame about the size of a road flare. Carter and his colleagues fly above a forest in a helicopter to drop these plastic spheres in precise patterns to safely ignite a prescribed burn.
