NASA Biological Institutional Scientific Collection

NBISC Patch with plants, space, and the world shown

The NASA Biological Institutional Scientific Collection (NBISC) at Ames Research Center stores non-human biospecimens from spaceflight investigations and associated ground controls. The biospecimens are collected and made available for request.

NASA’s Ames Life Sciences Data Archive (ALDSA) has been shipping non-human samples to investigators since 1995, fostering research into the effects spaceflight may have on bone, muscle, development, the cardiovascular system, and on regulatory physiology, to name a few.

To learn more about biospecimens in the NASA Biological Institutional Scientific Collection at Ames, visit the website at https://www.nasa.gov/ames/research/space-biosciences/nbisc. To initiate an inquiry, submit an online data request at the NASA Life Sciences Data Archive.

Contact the NBISC team at arc-dl-nbisc@mail.nasa.gov for additional information.
