THIS PAGE IS BEING UPDATED AS NEW INFORMATION IS RELEASED.
NASA Operating Status:
NASA is currently CLOSED due to a lapse in Government funding.
NASA Safe App
NASA Protective Services recommends utilizing the NASA Safe App (available for free download on iOS and Google Play) on both personal and government cell phones. Employees can also opt-in to receive center alert messages.
The app is also a one-stop shop for:
- Emergency response contacts
- Campus maps
- Gate operating hours
All employees and center visitors are encouraged to download the app. When installing it, be sure to allow notifications, and when the notifications preferences screen appears, choose your facility location to receive alerts. Some features of the app are geofenced, so be sure to allow the app to access your location while using the app, if requested.
Text Messages for Goddard Operating Status Updates
Employees have the choice to opt in to allow their personal and/or business mobile phones to receive text alerts about Goddard’s operating status and special updates by sending a text message to 333111 with GSFCGBLT in the body of the text. To opt out of the service, reply with STOP. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile provider. For Wallops, employees can sign up through the Echo internal-only website.
Resources for Excepted/Furloughed Employees
- Financial institutions have tools and options to help if the furlough is creating a financial burden. Many can offer deferred loan payments, provide low-interest or interest free loans, and offer financial counseling. Reach out directly to your financial institution to discuss your situation.
- Service providers (utilities, telephone, cable) may also have modified or deferred payment options available. Reach out to your providers directly to see what options are available if you need assistance.
- MyFEDBenefits has relaunched its Shutdown Assistance Map (SAM), which lists local businesses and organizations offering help to furloughed federal workers. You can enter your zip code to see local and national offers. (Information provided by external organizations is for information purposes only and not an endorsement.)
- The states of Maryland and Virginia have also launched webpages with resources for federal employees.
- For those in the DC area, the Capital Area food bank is providing food distribution specifically for federal employees and contractors
- This Credit Union emergency benefit assistance site offers links to various credit unions offering assistance.
- NASA’s Employee Assistance Program remains available and provides: a self-help portal; child and eldercare consultation; work life resources and referrals; and legal and financial consultation.
- Finally, Nasa.gov/shutdown/ remains our hub for agency information during the government shutdown. The site provides links for those with questions about unemployment compensation, Thrift Savings Plans, worker’s compensation and more.
