BEVIS AWARDED NASA EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE MEDAL HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. – James T. Bevis, a NASA employee at Stennis Space Center (SSC) near Bay St. Louis, today has been awarded NASA’s prestigious Exceptional Service Medal.
The NASA Exceptional Service Medal is given for significant sustained performance characterized by unusual initiative or creative ability that clearly demonstrates improvements in engineering, aeronautics, space flight, administration, support or space-related endeavors which contribute to NASA’s mission.
SSC Center Director Adm. Thomas Q. Donaldson V (USN, Ret.) and NASA Associate Administrator of the Space Operations Mission Directorate William F. Readdy presented the medal to Bevis.
Bevis, a resident of Diamondhead, is the chief financial officer for the Business Management Directorate at SSC. He was given the award for his vital role in integrating the rocket propulsion facilities and capabilities of four different NASA field centers. His painstaking efforts to identify each funding source at each center were called a striking example of “One NASA” teamwork before it was an agency priority.
Bevis was also lauded for implementing the first-ever monthly project reviews and championing the implementation of NASA’s Integrated Financial Management Program.
SSC, America’s largest rocket test complex, is NASA’s program manager for rocket propulsion testing and home to NASA’s Earth Science Applications Directorate.
