This week in 2009, space shuttle Atlantis, mission STS-125, landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California following a successful 12-day mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. This was the fifth and final mission to service and repair the telescope. Here, astronauts John Grunsfeld and Andrew Feustel perform the first of five spacewalks to work on Hubble, which is temporarily locked down in the shuttle’s cargo bay. NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center was responsible for the overall design, development, and construction of the observatory.
