Stennis Space Center was a beehive of activity during the 1960s as site test structures and facilities were constructed. All of the effort came to fruition in April 1966 as operators conducted the first-ever test of a Saturn rocket stage on the new A-2 Test Stand. The Space Age had arrived in south Mississippi.
