The CASIE mission uses the NASA Sierra uninhabited aerial vehicle, or UAV, to fly over the Arctic sea ice pack. Over difficult-to-access locations in the high Arctic, CASIE will provide sea ice data at finer spatial resolution than previous efforts.
CASIE is a safer way to obtain information. Satellites are not usable, and human flights over the area would require use of large multi-engine aircraft. Such flights place aircraft and crew at risk because of dangerous Arctic conditions. > Read More
