Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) is launched from an Atlas V rocket and heads to Mars. Besides surveying the planet, it is the first link to a communications bridge back to Earth for rovers and landers, as well as a link to an “interplanetary internet” that will be used by future missions in deep space.
