Butler Hine
Butler Hine is the Project Manager for the HelioSwarm mission, a space based solar wind observatory. Prior to that he served as the Project Manager for the ARCUS mission, a MIDEX class selected for Phase A concept study. ARCUS is a high-resolution X-ray grating spectrometer mission that is being developed to observe astrophysical phenomena over an incredibly broad range, in a sorely underutilized bandpass. Previously, Butler was the Project Manager for the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) mission, a lunar science orbiter which launched Sept. 6, 2013. Before LADEE, he managed various NASA programs, such as the Robotic Lunar Exploration Program, the Computing, Information, and Communications Technology Program, and the Intelligent Systems Program. He was once interviewed for the television program “Bad Influence!” representing NASA Ames. The program was an early to mid-1990s British factual broadcast on CITV about video games and computer technology. In this show, he was favorably compared to the Star Trek character Worf, for similar hair styles.
