Boldly Go Beyond the Fiction with a Star Trek Themed NASA Social

We’re inviting our social media followers to apply for a two-day event on the influence of Star Trek at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts on July 29 and 30 in the Washington, DC, area.

On Friday, July 29, attendees will go behind the scenes at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Md., for tours of the Hubble Space Telescope control center, learn all about the upcoming ICESat-2 spacecraft mission, tour the massive Satellite Integration and Testing Facility and view the world’s largest publicly-known cleanroom, where we’re building the massive James Webb Space Telescope, which will be the most powerful space telescope ever built.

On Saturday, NASA, the National Symphony Orchestra and the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in northern Virginia will co-host a special panel session prior to the evenings concert of Star Trek: Into Darkness at Wolf Trap. Attendees will have a reserved seat at a special “Trek Talk,” examining Star Trek’s influence on NASA culture. The discussion, which is open to the public, features interactions with Adam Nimoy and David Zappone from For the Love of Spock, Terry Farrell, an actress on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and NASA scientists Dave Lavery and Michelle Thaller. Bob Jacobs, NASA’s Deputy Associate Administrator for Communications, will moderate the panel. Attendees of this event will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panel and attend the performance of the score of Star Trek: Into Darkness, following the panel.

A maximum of 25 social media users will be selected to attend. Registration is now open on this page and closes at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sunday, July 17, 2016. All social media accreditation applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
