NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, will hold its annual “Take Our Children to Work Day” June 18 — offering children in grades 3-12 a variety of hands-on educational activities and enlightening them about the day-to-day work of Marshall.
Marshall Center Deputy Director Teresa Vanhooser will welcome children and their family members at 8:15 a.m. CDT in Building 4200, Morris Auditorium. Children then can visit various Marshall facilities to explore a variety of crafts, hands-on experiments and demonstrations — all the while acquiring a greater awareness of NASA’s mission and career opportunities in the “STEM” fields — science, technology, engineering and math.
Among the day’s highlights are presentations and activities tied to the Space Launch System, the nation’s heavy-lift launch vehicle, now in development at NASA and partner facilities nationwide and managed by Marshall; and the International Space Station and the NASA teams who work around the clock in Marshall’s Payload Operations Integration Center to operate science experiments on the orbiting lab. They’ll also take part in science presentations by Marshall researchers, Sci-Quest of Huntsville and Kevin Delaney of the Arkansas Museum of Discovery in Little Rock; gain insight into NASA TV production with Marshall’s Mobile Production Unit; and learn smart spending lessons from Redstone Federal Credit Union.
The yearly event is organized by Marshall’s Office of Diversity & Equal Opportunity and includes participation by Marshall organizations and teams across the center.

Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. (To ensure adequate security processing and badging time, members of the media are encouraged to arrive at Gate 9 at least 30 minutes before the event they seek to cover.) Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4200 on the southwest side, and in front of Building 4316, where key activities will be held throughout the event.
