NASA’s ‘Destination Station’ Coming To Atlanta

HOUSTON – The public is invited to learn more about living in space, directly from NASA experts and space-exploring astronauts, in a series of special events coming to Georgia. The agency’s “Destination Station” activities in the Atlanta area start Monday, April 15.
Destination Station is an outreach effort by NASA to share, educate and inspire the public about the International Space Station. The space station is a multinational research facility and the largest spacecraft ever built. It is an official U.S. National Laboratory where astronauts and scientists from around the world conduct experiments in fundamental life, physical, Earth and space science, as well as human health, technologies for space exploration and the improvement of life on Earth.
Although the special events don’t begin until April 15, Destination Station will kick off in Atlanta on April 6 with a unique exhibit at the Fernbank Science Center. The exhibit remains open until May 18, but participants can experience more of the excitement of space exploration as part of the following public events (all times Eastern):
Monday, April 15, 10-3 p.m.: Experiences in Orbit – Astronaut Shane Kimbrough shares his experiences in space, Tellus Science Museum
Tuesday, April 16, 6 p.m.: Georgia Tech baseball game – Astronaut Shane Kimbrough throws the first pitch as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face the Savannah State Tigers, Russ Chandler Stadium
Wednesday, April 17, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Destination Station exhibit showcase, and live chat with International Space Station crew members in orbit, Fernbank Science Center
Thursday, April 18, 6:30-9 p.m.: Evening with an Astronaut, Fernbank Science Center
Friday, April 19, 1-2:30 p.m.: Experiences in Orbit – Astronaut presentation and autographs, Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta
Friday, April 19, 6:30-9 p.m.: Evening with an Astronaut and planetarium show, Fernbank Science Center
Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Space Station Story Time with an astronaut, Jimmy Carter Library and Museum
Sunday, April 21, 4-5:30 p.m.: Destination Station MeetUp with the Atlanta Science Tavern group, Georgia Tech Enterprise & Innovation Institute.
