Over his career, Dr. Lillehei served in several roles and in many different NASA organizations. He worked for the technical capability organizations in the Research, Engineering, and the Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorates as a researcher, branch head, technical advisor, and as a deputy director. He also worked for the mission facing organizations in the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate and the Space Technology Mission Directorate in technical management, project/program management, and business development roles. He also served in the Office of Chief Technologist as the Langley Deputy Center Chief Technologist.

Lillehei has a breadth of leadership experience and a wide-ranging network that has helped him to foster relationships between organizations, centers, and other government agencies. As a result of his work for both the technical capability and the mission facing organizations, he understands the needs and challenges that these organizations face as well as the opportunities for partnerships.

Lillehei has over 30 refereed publications, seven patents and has received a Reid Award and a Whitcomb Holloway Award for his contributions to nanocomposite development.
