Mary Cate McKee

Data Scientist, Contractor, Stratospheric Aerosols and Gas Experiment, Science Directorate, NASA Langley Research Center

Mary Cate graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in May of 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science. Mary Cate grew up in the ‘snowiest city in the US’ (Syracuse, NY) and is an avid skier, so she has always been fascinated by winter weather. What really inspired her to pursue atmospheric science, however, was learning about the relationships between each component of Earth’s dynamic atmosphere, and the methods used to study and model these interactions. During her time at CU, she was a ‘Learning Assistant’ for her favorite meteorology course, which involved supporting professors during lectures and conducting weekly review sessions with students. She also participated in a research project during the summer of 2021 in Granada, Spain which focused on the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model. Additionally, she had the opportunity to work with scientists creating programs for meteorological analysis at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Throughout all of these experiences, she has loved being able to share her passion for atmospheric science with others in the scientific community. She is thrilled to take part in this mission and further our understanding of Earth’s atmosphere. She is currently working with the SAGE III science team on validation, visualization, and analysis of data. Outside of work, she loves traveling, skiing, hiking, reading, and taking care of her cat Gatsby and her collection of houseplants.
