George W. Jacobs

Manager, Program Control and Integration

George W. Jacobs is the chief of the Program Control and Integration Office of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program at Kennedy Space Center. CCP is working with the American aerospace industry to develop safe, reliable and cost-effective crew transportation systems for low-Earth orbit destinations, including the International Space Station.

As the office manager he is responsible for overseeing program integration activities such as budget planning and execution, resources and schedule management, qualitative/schedule risk assessment, acquisition strategy and contract management, program control and technical review board logistics, and configuration/data management. In addition, he assists in managing the development of program policies, processes, and decisions as well as responses to inquiries, actions, and/or audits from external organizations, and data/document requests/release. 

Experience

Prior to joining CCP, Jacobs served as the chairman of the Kennedy Protective Services follow-on Contract Source Evaluation Board, known as KPSC-II.  In that role, he was responsible for ensuring the Source Selection Official received competent and timely assistance in making a source selection decision by providing a thorough and objective evaluation of offers, compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.

Prior to his reassignment to the Commercial Crew Program, Jacobs served as the deputy director of the Center Operations Directorate, as well as the chief of the Shuttle Transition and Retirement Office. His many accomplishments include the successful placement of the Space Shuttle fleet and safing of the shuttle facilities. Jacobs began his career at NASA in 1987 where he served in numerous positions supporting the Space Shuttle Program until 2012. 

Awards

Jacobs has received numerous citations and accolades for his contributions to the agency over the years, and in 2011, received the prestigious NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal for his contributions to the Shuttle Transition and Retirement.

Education

Jacobs earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1987, and a master’s degree in Space Systems from the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Fla., in 1992.

Personal

Jacobs currently resides in Merritt Island with his wife, Marie, and four children, Sarah, Elizabeth, George and Catherine.
