Mission Manager

Hamilton Fernandez is a mission manager in the Launch Services Program (LSP) at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the integration of NASA spacecraft missions to selected launch services and launch vehicles.

He is responsible for the day-to-day technical management of all aspects of NASA mission integration to a launch service, including mission unique hardware and software, analytical studies, trade studies, engineering evaluations, overall launch service contract management, and budget formulation and execution.

Experience

Fernandez began his career in LSP at Kennedy in 1999 and continued through January 2004. From January 2004 to July 2010, he worked in the Independent Program Assessment Office at NASA Headquarters. From August 2010 to September 2020, he worked in the Advanced Air Vehicles Program at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, before returning to Kennedy.

Awards

He is the recipient of a NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 2022.

Education

Fernandez earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico in 1989.

Personal

Fernandez resides in Titusville with his husband, Jeffrey, though San German, Puerto Rico, is his hometown. Fernandez has triplet sons, Daniel, Gabriel, and Nathaniel, all currently attending the University of Central Florida. They have a dog named Kaleo.

Fernandez practices hot yoga four to five times a week. He enjoys hiking and, in 2015, he walked 500 miles in the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
