Genevieve Futch

Mission Manager

Genevieve Futch is a mission manager in the Launch Services Program (LSP) at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She leads the mission integration team responsible for the launch services of NASA’s science and robotic missions. She works with spacecraft teams starting several years before launch of a mission, from early concept through procurement of the launch service. She also manages the service through launch and postlaunch milestones.

Futch oversees the contract deliverables, schedule, budget, and technical requirements, including integration and vehicle engineering for the launch service. Her missions include TROPICS (Time-Resolved Observations of Precipitation structure and storm intensity with a Constellation of SmallSats), IMAP (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe), Space Weather Follow On-Lagrange, Carruthers Geocorona Observatory, Total and Spectral Irradiance Sensor-2, and VERITAS (Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography and Spectroscopy).

Experience

Prior to her current role, Futch was a mission integration engineer with LSP from August 2018 to August 2022. Her first prime mission was Lucy, which launched in October 2021. As an integration engineer, she was responsible for leading the technical team focusing on the spacecraft to rocket integration. The missions she supported in that role were TROPICS constellation, TROPICS Pathfinder, and the Roman Space Telescope.

Futch began her career at Kennedy as a co-op student with United Space Alliance (USA) for the Space Shuttle Program on May 11, 2009, which coincided with the launch of Atlantis on STS-125, the fifth Hubble Servicing Mission. She transitioned to full time with USA in 2009, where she worked as an industrial engineer in the Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, and Safety Group. Her responsibilities included process improvement projects and mishap investigations for the Ground Systems Support division of the shuttle program.

Futch left Kennedy and worked for Boeing in South Carolina on the 787 aircraft from October 2010 to September 2015. She was a tooling and equipment engineer during construction of the factory, and then an industrial engineer leading the cargo deck and engine assembly in the final assembly building.

She returned to Kennedy and worked as a contractor supporting Artemis from 2015 to August 2018. Futch supported Exploration Ground Systems as a project manager in the Vehicle Assembly Building, focused on preparing High Bay 3 for its platform modifications for Artemis missions.

Awards

She is the recipient of several awards, including a Kennedy Certificate of Appreciation in 2023, Group Achievement Awards for TROPICS Pathfinder and TROPICS acquisition in 2022, and a Kennedy Certificate of Appreciation for her support of the Lucy mission in 2021.

Education

Futch attended the University of Central Florida and received a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering in 2009.

Personal

Futch considers Dade City, Florida, to be her hometown. She resides with her mom and their dog, Jasper, in Titusville, with a beautiful view of the space center.

Her hobbies include travel, being outdoors, biking, and skiing.
