Ruth M. Amundsen – NESC Academy Biography

Ruth is a thermal engineer in the Structural and Thermal Systems Branch in the Engineering Directorate at NASA Langley, where she has worked since 1990.  She received a BS in physics from Stanford University in 1984, and then worked at Martin Marietta Aerospace (Denver) for 4 years.  She received a dual Master’s Degree in Material Science & Engineering and Aerospace Engineering from University of Michigan in May 1990.  

She has a total of over 30 years of experience in thermal/aerospace engineering. She was thermal lead for the successful launch of the Ares I-X vehicle, the Mach 10 vehicle Hyper-X (X-43A), Mars Odyssey & Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter aerobraking, and is currently working on SAGE III on ISS thermal analysis.
